With its core business reaching maturity and under increasing pressure from new competitors, the client lacked the financial and organisational flexibility to invest in emerging growth opportunities that would secure the long-term survival of the business.
With the imperative to streamline head office functions, the company embarked on a major overhead reduction initiative, involving a task force of over a dozen executives over 6 months.
The team conducted an intensive, detailed review of the activities and outputs of all overhead departments, and identified extensive opportunities to boost overhead efficiency by eliminating low value tasks and workload. These findings were partially captured as reductions in the overhead cost base, but also enabled the redeployment of resources to high priority growth projects for the business.
